Masterminds series by Gordon Korman
The whole series is really good and keeps you on the edge of your seat. A group of children lives in the perfect little town where everything is just perfect. But of course it’s not. It takes three intense books for the kids to figure out the full horror of what is happening to them and how to deal with it.

The Girl with All the Gifts, a movie and a book by M. R. Carey, may seem like just another zombie story, but it’s got an original twist I hadn’t seen yet, and I’ve read a lot of zombie books. This is a world of “hungries” more than a decade after the collapse of civilization. Humanity is barely hanging on and desperately searching for a cure for the fungal infection that turns people into meat eating monsters. Melanie and her friends may have the answer. They are children who are hungries but they can also grow and think and learn. Can they save everyone? Yes, but not the way you think.

Britt suggests:
Hitchhiker by Neil Young is his newest album, but was actually recorded in 1976. Many of the songs were further developed into newer, different versions that became huge hits. This album is their original incarnation. It is fun and great to listen to because it’s just Neil and his guitar, no band, no autotune, nothing fancy, just music.

Lazaretto by Jack White is another great CD. It is rollicking, fun music.
