Happy Monday! It’s time for another installment of Hoopla Holiday music!
New Releases/Children’s:
Various Artists, Disney Junior Music Holiday Hits. Here’s a good one for the kids–a variety of holiday songs from some of their favorite Disney programming!
Various Artists, Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack. Danny Elfman and a cast of other greats lead the soundtrack to this Tim Burton classic.
Lindsey Stirling, Warmer in the Winter. This new release by violin virtuoso Lindsey Stirling, who mixes classical, electronica, and dance music into a stew all her own, is sure to be a fun listen.
Country:
Kacey Musgraves, A Very Kacey Christmas. A true contemporary country original, Musgraves delivers here, much the same as she does on her other albums, which you can hear here and here.
The Louvin Brothers, Christmas with The Louvin Brothers. The beautiful, other-worldy high harmonies of this duo are hard to top. If this album doesn’t prove that, check out some others.
Darius Rucker, Home for the Holidays. He’s not Hootie. He’s not a Blowfish. He’s Darius Rucker, and he made this holiday album.
Funk/R&B/Soul:
Various Artists, Funky Christmas. Here’s a great set from a stellar roster of groovers, from the Cotillion Label.
James Brown, Soulful Christmas. The Godfather of Soul wants you to dance. You should probably listen.
Off the beaten path:
The Pretenders, “2000 Miles”. Maybe not that far off the path, but this killer album The Pretenders ends with a holiday classic that’ll make you water your eggnog down with tears.
The Ventures, The Ventures’ Christmas Album. Walk, don’t run, to download this Christmas album from the surf masters!
That’s all for this week. See you next Monday!
Ho Ho Hoopla!
