Staff book reviews from Monica McGurer and Deborah at GCPL’s Middlefield Branch

A Perfect Day by Lane Smith

Recommended by Deborah, Youth Services Assistant

Children’s picture book

“The warmth of the sun felt good on Cat’s back….It was a perfect day for Cat.”

Cat. Dog. Chickadee. Squirrel. We meet them one by one. Each is having a perfect day until…BEAR.

The combination of repetitive text, clever use of font, deadpan, and textured mixed-media illustrations make A Perfect Day a near-perfect book that will delight both young and old.

Off the Grid, by Monica McCarty

Recommended by Monica McGurer, staff member at GCPL’s Middlefield Branch

Off the Grid, book 2 of Monica McCarty’s The Lost Platoon series. Book one is Going Dark. It features betrayal, murder, romance, and non-stop action. This contemporary series is different from her usual historical romance but will not disappoint any of her readers. Book 3, Out of Time, will be released in December 2018. Can’t wait!
