A bright holiday to all

December 19, 2018

Geauga County Public Library Director Ed Worso.
“GCPL serves the citizens of Geauga County and greater northeast Ohio by providing an environment where people are engaged, connected and inspired.”

As we close 2018, I would like to express my gratitude for all the community support as GCPL continues to evolve. I wish everyone a bright holiday season. Enjoy plenty of cookies, time with your family and friends – and hopefully, a good book by the fireplace. If you need any suggestions, check out the Club Ink blog for our annual round-up of the best releases in movies, music, and literature throughout the year, along with posts from guest contributors.

Looking ahead at 2019, I am filled with excitement for upcoming initiatives. We have new buildings in the works, which I will be blogging about as progress is made. Plus, our collection and programs continue to grow. Our strategic plan that we officially launched June 1, 2018, is in full swing. Our staff is committed to engage, connect and inspire. What do these things mean for the first quarter of 2019? Read on.

Engage

Dynamic programming at all our buildings as well as at off-site partner locations provides opportunities for patrons to engage with ideas. Patrons enjoy cooking classes, art workshops, quilting, aromatherapy, and movies, along with book discussions and storytimes. Open our doors and step into a welcoming environment where ideas abound. Here is where your community engages while learning and growing in the process.

Connect

Today’s libraries are bustling centers of activity. Gone are the days when librarians “shhhhed” patrons. Today, our meeting rooms and community spaces are booked for activities every day. Parents bring their little ones to storytimes. Toddlers form their first friendships and discover the magic of nursery rhymes. Families meet their favorite storybook characters like Pete the Cat. Teens make tie-dye projects. Adults discover genealogy, learn how to blog, and share recipes. There’s lots of laughter and a sense of community. Of course, when students need a quiet space to study for the ACT or write a term paper, our study areas provide a quiet place to work.

Inspire

You already know what it’s like to fall in love with a good book. You count on libraries to provide everything from the classics to today’s contemporary voices. GCPL’s shelves are filled with a robust collection in all genres. When you need to meet your next Atticus Finch or Katniss Everdeen, ask a librarian. Amazing adventures await. Here is your place to find them and be inspired.
