Massage Therapy has had multiple definitions over the years. And, there are numerous reasons to receive a treatment. One person may just want to “relax” while another may have a specific issue to be addressed. Massage, no matter why you receive one, will have positive effects on the body, mind, and soul. There are many, many techniques that can be utilized during a session as well as self-care education. It is one of many alternative options to be used instead of, or in conjunction with traditional medical care.

Some benefits of massage include but are not limited to:

  • Relieve stress
  • Relieve postoperative pain
  • Reduce anxiety
  • Manage low-back pain
  • Help fibromyalgia pain
  • Reduce muscle tension
  • Enhance exercise performance
  • Relieve tension headaches
  • Sleep better
  • Ease symptoms of depression
  • Improve cardiovascular health
  • Reduce the pain of osteoarthritis
  • Decrease stress in cancer patients
  • Improve balance in older adults
  • Decrease rheumatoid arthritis pain
  • Temper effects of dementia
  • Promote relaxation
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Decrease symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Help chronic neck pain
  • Lower joint replacement pain
  • Increase range of motion
  • Decrease migraine frequency
  • Improve the quality of life in hospice care
  • Reduce chemotherapy-related nausea

There are more and more people realizing that massage has health benefits.  My tag line has always been, “Massage Therapy is not just for pampering, it is necessary for your total well-being.”  I truly believe in massage and enjoy educating anyone interested in learning about how to improve their well-being through massage therapy. Think of massage therapy when searching for an alternative healing option.

I have two locations, Beachwood and Novelty, and am available Monday through Friday. I can be reached at 440-241-7926, on or on Facebook at

GCPL has numerous titles and resources about massage. One popular book is The Complete Guide to Massage by Mary Biancalana.
