Lager Queen of Minnesota by J Ryan Stradal

Last summer I saw this book and had to read it!

Right from the beginning, the title grabbed me.  (I had moved here from Minnesota.)

The inside description carried me back and into the book I walked.

By page 3 I was enjoying #1 best pies – Betty’s pies from Two Harbors, MN. (Yes, they really are known to make some of the best pies in Minnesota)

The book tells the story of a Midwest family navigating happy days and hard times.  It is a slice of life and J Ryan Stradal takes you there.  Along the way, you can taste the pies, see the sites, learn about how a lager beer is created and join in the happiness and heart breaks of a family doing their best to see the best in everyday circumstances.  Life may give you lemons but that doesn’t mean you can’t make a pie or even a great tasting craft beer.

I had the opportunity to meet J Ryan Stradal, and listen to the author talk about this book.  He made us laugh and entertained us with tales of the brewing process as well as the Minneapolis-St. Paul area.

I encourage you to pick up the book, put your feet up, sip your favorite craft beer and enjoy.

GCPL’s Bainbridge Branch is having Lager Queen of Minnesota as the March 2020 evening book discussion selection, March 27, 7pm.

Check it out!
