“Mom, I Want a Good Book to Read!”: Using NoveList K – 8

Are your kids looking for a good book to read? Don’t know where to turn when you can’t get to the library?  The Geauga County Public Library offers a great resource to help them out, NoveList K-8 Plus.  This user-friendly database allows kids to search for their next great fiction or non-fiction book by searching genres, read-a-likes, plots, reading level, page numbers, along with numerous other attributes.  Do you want a fiction book by a Guyanese author published in the last two years?  No problem.  NoveList K-8 Plus will offer you three choices and conveniently links it to the Clevnet catalog so you can put them on hold. How about looking for picture books for your 2-year-old who loves construction vehicles, or penguins?  Again, it’s simple. Through the advance search, users can find books based on AR reading levels and Lexile scores depending on what your child’s school uses.

If your kids are like me, you don’t always know exactly what you want to read.  That is where the curated lists come in handy.  These lists have been created by librarians, teachers, and literature specialists.  For teens, you may choose “Sports Stories”, “If You’re a Fan of Reality TV”, “Reading During the Pandemic”, or something off of the many read-a-like lists.  Not a teen? Don’t worry, there are also lists for ages 9-12 and ages 0-8.  Another great feature of NoveList K-8 Plus is the ability to create and save personalized folders.  You can create an account for free and start saving books you would like to read at a future date in those folders.

Are you thinking, “Geez, I wish there was something like that I could use to find my next good read?”  You’re in luck.  The Geauga County Public Library also has a version for adults, NoveList Plus.  It includes all the same features, plus audiobooks. You can take a look at both versions of NoveList Plus on the Resources & Research page.

I am currently reading Kent State by Deborah Willis and currently watching Last Tango In Halifax.
