Get More Done with Audiobooks

February 4, 2021

This blog was written by Jenna who is an undergraduate student at Kent State University majoring in Advertising. She is currently interning with the GCPL Marketing Department.

As a woman in my 20’s, I know all about multitasking. Juggling school, work, and relationships, all while trying to stay happy and healthy, can feel like a tremendous amount of pressure. I often feel guilty for wanting to sit down and take a break; however, it is so important to set aside time for yourself to relax and enjoy your hobbies. Reading has been a hobby of mine since I was a kid, but as I grew into an adult I always felt like I did not have time to shut out the world long enough to open a book.

Luckily, a friend of mine recommended I listen to audiobooks, and that changed everything! Now, I pop in my headphones and listen while I’m cooking, cleaning, and working out. I don’t have to feel guilty because I can accomplish other tasks while I listen. This helps mundane tasks feel more relaxing and enjoyable, so it’s a win-win situation. As a library cardholder, you have access to multitudes of audiobooks through Overdrive, which not only offers titles in audiobook form, but also ebook if you do prefer to read a book digitally. Also, you can download the Overdrive app Libby onto your smartphone, so you can easily listen on the go. Here are 3 titles available in audiobook form through Overdrive that have really helped me navigate life as a woman in my 20’s:

1. The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin. The Happiness Project will show you how to change your life, without actually changing your life, thanks to the findings of modern science, ancient history and popular culture about happiness, which the author tested for a year and now shares with you.
