It takes a village they say. Here at GCPL we are proud of our team. They contribute in various roles to keep library operations smoothly rolling along. They are valued members of the community. The #MeetGCPL blog highlights a library team member and lets you get to know them a little bit more, so when you see them at your local Branch you can connect further.
For this #MeetGCPL we would like to introduce you to Nadia. Nadia has lived in many places throughout Ohio, as she moved often with her family due to her father’s career as a Pastor. She currently resides in Thompson with her sister. She loves it, with the exception of the snow. Nadia currently works at our Chardon Branch as a Youth Services Assistant.
– Favorite book:
The Lord of the Rings, by J.R.R. Tolkien is my favorite book series of all time. Another my favorite book of mine is The Stinky Cheese Man and other fairly stupid tales, by Jon Sciezka, it helped me realize that I could write my own stories and they didn’t have to be serious. I will also give a shout out to his autobiographical book, Knuckleheads, about his large, hilarious family, which I relate to deeply.
– Fur babies:
A cat named Saavik, named after one of my favorite Star Trek characters. I also live with a Chinchilla named Ernest Hemingway and a dog named Lucy.
– Favorite vacation spot:
Lakeside, Ohio. It’s a calm and beautiful little town and I can’t help but feel relaxed when I’m there.
– How she spends her free time:
I love to act and direct theater. I help run the shows at Thompson Square Community Theater, and it is always a blast. My favorite recent role was playing the villain in our steampunk version of The Tempest.
– Something new she would like to try:
I would like to learn how to box, possibly because I’ve watched both the Rocky and the Daredevil series too many times. I have my own punching bag and gloves and am trying to become a super hero/contender in my basement, but haven’t gotten too far yet.
– Something she suggests you should try:
Take a cross country trip. I drove to California with 3 of my siblings and it was one of the best experiences of my life. I’ve also gone on many fun family road trips, always more fun than flying.
– Most memorable library experience:
Living in Southern Ohio my family with all five siblings (back then, now we have seven) would make the winding drive to the library every week. It was a magical destination with a beautiful children’s section, akin to Belle’s library in Beauty and the Beast, at least in my childhood memories. My only disappointment from the library came when the illustrated copy of Lord of the Rings transitioned permanently to their bookmobile.
– Favorite quote:
“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” – 2nd Corinthians 12:9, the Holy Bible.
– Currently reading:
I am currently working through all the Avatar comics after watching Avatar: The Last Airbender. In 2020 I fell in love with the show.
