It takes a village they say. Here at GCPL we are proud of our team. They contribute in various roles to keep library operations smoothly rolling along. They are valued members of the community. The #MeetGCPL blog highlights a library team member and lets you get to know them a little bit more, so when you see them at your local Branch you can connect further.
For this #MeetGCPL we would like to introduce you Eric. Eric grew up in Mantua and Ravenna. There was a time he lived in Kansas and Maryland before returning to Northeast Ohio. Eric currently works at our Geauga West Branch as Branch Manager.
– Favorite book:
I love the Maisie Dobbs series by Jacqueline Winspear
– Fur babies:
I have two dogs, Fritz and Coco. Coco is about 15 years old and Frits is about 10. Coco is a pure bred Norwich Terrier and one of the best dogs I have ever had. Fritz is a Yorkie mix. I got both dogs when I lived in Kansas.
– Favorite vacation spot:
I absolutely love going to Chicago. I always feel like I discover something new there and it is a place I feel like I’m home. I also love going to the beach.
– How he spends his free time:
I like theatre, both attending and performing. I love shopping and going to thrift stores. I spend a lot of time with friends and family.
– Something new he would like to try:
I have always wanted to learn to knit. It just seems like something that would be a good way to watch a movie or watch TV.
– Something he suggests you should try:
Move to a different city and experience a new culture and way of doing things. You learn so much about yourself. My great grandmother who lived to be 102 always said her biggest regret was never learning to drive.
– Most memorable library experience:
I have been working in libraries since I was in high school. I was a library aide at school and then ended up getting a job at the local public library when I was 16. My most memorable experience was while giving a storytime a little boy was picking his nose. When he finally got the booger out he announced to the group that “I got it! Look everyone!” To, which my assistant chuckled and said “let me get a tissue for you. He promptly licked the booger from his finger and announced “That’s okay I ate it!”. We all laughed so hard and his poor mother was so embarrassed.
– Favorite quotes:
“Be yourself; Everybody else is already taken.” – Oscar Wilde
“Fairy Tales are more than true; not because they tell us dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten.” – Neil Gaiman
