Meet GCPL: Adult Services Assistant Izzy

June 2, 2021

It takes a village they say. Here at GCPL we are proud of our team. They contribute in various roles to keep library operations smoothly rolling along. They are valued members of the community. The #MeetGCPL blog highlights a library team member and lets you get to know them a little bit more, so when you see them at your local Branch you can connect further.

For this #MeetGCPL we would like to introduce you to Izzy. Izzy is from Burton, Ohio, and currently works at our Bainbridge Branch as an Adult Services Assistant.

– Favorite book:
My current favorite is The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix. I read this while I was in Beaufort, South Carolina which really set the scene of this novel.

                           Zig

– Fur and scale babies:
I have a black cat named Zig and a large gold fish named Big Orange.

                               Montana

– Favorite vacation spot:
Anyplace that is new. I am trying to go to all 50 states so far, I have been to 36. My favorite state I have visited is Montana. I drove from the west end to the east end following a river and a railroad track the whole time. It was amazing to experience traveling from the mountains to the grass lands, truly breathtaking

– How she spends her free time:
I recently became an aunt and I love hanging out with my niece, Delilah and her parents. I am so excited to take her to the library and children’s programs when she gets older. I also read a lot when I am not in school and have a yearly goal of 52 new books.

– Something new she would like to try:
I want to learn how to skateboard and longboard. I think it is such a cool way of transportation, I already know how to bike and roller skate, and would love to learn some tricks.

– Something she suggests you should try:
Drive cross country. I think seeing and experiencing the differences between regions of the country is one of the best ways to expand your horizons. Traveling from Ohio out west, you live the hills of the Midwest and watch in the distance as mountains slowly rise along the horizon. It was an experience I will never forget and will always be thankful for.

– Most memorable library experience:
My mom would take me to the Burton Public Library growing up and we would be at every story time with Carlos. As I grew up my mom would still take me to the library after school and leave me to browse in the Young Adult section where I would chronicle all my reading for the summer reading contests.

– Favorite quote:
“When unique voices are united in a common cause, they make history.”  — Gloria Steinem, June 2013

– Currently reading:
I am approaching finals week so I have not picked up a new book, however, the one I want to read next is Deadly Education by Naomi Novik.
