Meet GCPL: Youth Services Assistant Audra

September 15, 2021

It takes a village they say. Here at GCPL we are proud of our team. They contribute in various roles to keep library operations smoothly rolling along. They are valued members of the community. The #MeetGCPL blog highlights a library team member and lets you get to know them a little bit more, so when you see them at your local Branch you can connect further.

For this #MeetGCPL we would like to introduce you to Audra. Audra is originally from Jefferson, Ohio, and currently works at our Chardon Branch as a Youth Services Assistant.

 Favorite Place to vacation:
Myrtle Beach, SC. We went there growing up and it brings back so many good memories. There’s a good mix of opportunities to relax and opportunities to get out and do fun things.

 How she spends free time:
I like to read, write fiction stories, explore the Cleveland Metroparks, and try new coffee shops.

Favorite books:
I will always love the Twilight saga! I also love The Secret History by Donna Tartt and Unthinkable: An Extraordinary Journey Through the World’s Strangest Brains by Helen Thomson.

Something she would like to learn how to do:
I would love to learn to decorate cakes. I enjoy both baking and arts/crafts, so I think cake decorating would be a perfect blend.

Fur baby:
I have a two-year-old striped tabby cat named Petrie.

Something she believes everyone should do once in their life:
Learn a new language. It opens your eyes to other cultures and patterns of thinking.

Her library story:
My favorite book growing up was The Old Woman Who Named Things. I learned to love the library when my Mom would take me weekly and we would check out a pile of books and renew that particular book every time. I participated in a library scavenger hunt program (at Henderson Memorial Public Library in Jefferson) where we put a team together and brought in as many items as we could find on the list. You got bonus points for creativity, so my team dressed up as the Wizard of Oz characters. I was the tin man.

Favorite quote:
Do we live in the physical world that we can touch, or do we live in the world that we create in our minds?” – Charlie Bellow in the movie My Sassy Girl

Currently reading:.
I’m currently reading Imaginary Friend by Stephen Chbosky.
