The Library is buzzing with activity this week as we make final preparations for our GCPL Summer Reading Program. Summer is the time of year when we roll out the red carpet for all readers, from our most dedicated to the sometimes reluctant. And we have a wide range of activities for all ages to get everyone excited about reading this summer.
The GCPL Summer Reading Program will engage your family in fun reading activities to increase learning and prevent the summer slide. Summer slide occurs when a reader regresses or lacks growth in reading skills over the summer break. This can have a negative impact on a child’s academic progress throughout the upcoming school year. One of the easiest ways to help prevent summer slide is to join the library’s Summer Reading Program. This Program is a great way to encourage reading and a love of learning.
What can you do to help support a child’s love of reading and learning?
Let children choose what they read!
Let your child see you reading!
Make reading a fun family event!
We have a wide range of activities for all ages to get everyone excited about reading this summer. Some of our activities include storytimes, crafts, music, movies, and READING. For example, Middlefield will be hosting a Treasure Chest event! We are also offering a Bubble Show at Geauga West and fun weekly adventures with Pirates, Mermaids, and Sea Monsters of all kinds at Chardon. The Bainbridge staff are excited to host a Pirate Day and Battle of the Books. Lastly, storytimes for all ages and interests are offered at our different locations throughout the summer. Come join us for these and other events at GCPL.
