Geauga County Public Library’s Anderson Allyn Room houses a rich collection of genealogy materials, documenting Geauga life from 1805 to Present. The collection consists of books, marriage records, cemetery records, city directories, local newspapers, yearbooks and more.

Programs & Services

Our Family & Local History department offers specialized reference to all patrons, from children and beginning genealogist to professional researchers and scholars. Family & Local History specialists offer personalized one-on-one research sessions, host monthly programs, and co-sponsors programs with the Geauga County Genealogical Society. View upcoming genealogy programs and events.

Resources below are available for in-person use in the Anderson Allyn Room unless otherwise noted.

Birth & Death Records

Available in indexes and microfilm, this collection includes Geauga birth and death records ranging from 1867-1908.

Local Cemetery Database »

Our digital cemetery collection is available online and records burials for each Geauga township in alphabetical order by surname and lot/section number.

Census Records

Contains cross examined information by staff and volunteers to be used as a substitute for the missing 1890 census information for Geauga County.

City Directories

This collection contains directories from 1912, 1937, and 1960-1990, covering both Chardon and Geauga County.

Court Records

Includes extensive court records, including estate records, probate packets, and probate ledger books, ranging from 1805-1955.

Family History

Thanks to the work of everyday Geaugans, our collection includes 57 binders (approx. 30,000 names) of locally sourced family group sheets that were donated to the Anderson Allyn Room.

Local Newspapers

This collection includes (in various formats): 300 early Geauga newspapers, the News-Herald (1992-2019), the Maple Leaf (1993-Present), the Weekly Mail (1962-2002), the Chesterland News (2012-2018), and the Kirtland News (2013-2018).

Local Yearbooks »

This collection contains local high school year books from various years and school districts. Copies can be found by searching for the “school name” and “year” in our digital catalog.

Materials range from 1825-1919 and are available through book indexes and on microfilm.
