Who can get a library card?

All Ohio residents, regardless of age, are eligible to receive a Geauga County Public Library card. Applicants must apply in person by visiting their local branch. A valid form of identification and proof of Ohio residency are required to complete the application.

Applicants under 18 must by accompanied by a parent or guardian to accept financial responsibility for borrowed materials. If no parent or guardian is available, applicants under 18 can apply for a 3-for-Me library card.

What’s an accepted form of ID and residency?

Accepted forms of identification include: Driver’s licenses, state or US military IDs, and passports. Accepted proof of residency include: a printed check with applicant’s address, a utility bill with applicant’s address, or a postcard (postmarked within the last 30 days) with applicant’s address.

Types of Library Cards

Library Card

Remains valid for 7 years and grants access to both our digital and physical collections. In addition, cardholders receive unlimited access to all our digital offerings, including our collection of 80+ eResources.

eCard

Remains valid for 3 years and grants access to the Library’s digital collections. eCards are available to Geauga County residents and may be upgraded to a physical library card at the cardholder’s local branch with proof of identification and residency.

3-for-Me

Available for patrons under 18 without a parent or guardian present at the time of the application, the 3-for-Me card allows patrons to borrow up to three print items at a time.

Institution Card

Available to organizations in Geauga County that are engaged in educational, cultural, and recreational activities. To learn more about this option, contact your local branch for more information.

Temporary Card

Available to patrons who do not have the proper paperwork at the time of their application. Temporary cards permits the cardholder to complete transactions, with a maximum of two (2) items borrowed.

Lending Policies

To borrow materials, patrons must have their library card or photo ID available at check out. In order for another family member to check items out on your library card, you must notify your local branch to add them as an authorized user.

Most items borrowed from Geauga County Public Library will automatically renew at the end of their lending period, and can do so up to five (5) times. However, automatic renewals will not occur when another patron has placed a hold on the borrowed item. In general, loan periods last 21 days for books, audiobooks, magazines, CDs, and DVDs/Blu-rays. For certain items, like new DVDs/Blu-rays, telescopes, and our hotspots, loan periods are limited to seven (7) days.
