Geauga County Public Library to launch Summer Reading on June 1

Press Release

Geauga County Public Library will launch its Summer Reading program on Sunday, June 1 and conclude the program on Thursday, July 31.

To celebrate the beginning of Summer Reading, the Library will hold its annual Summer Reading Kickoff program at the Geauga County Fairgrounds on Saturday, June 7, from 11 AM to 1 PM. This year’s celebrations include a special visit from Bill Starcher and his famous life-sized sculptures, as well as a Rascal-themed scavenger hunt, a Geauga County Library Foundation book sale, balloon twisting, fun outdoor games, crafts, raffle prizes, and more. For additional details about this event, patrons can visit geaugalibrary.libcal.com.

Summer Reading is Geauga County Public Library’s signature program, helping young readers support their interest in and progression of their reading proficiency during the summer months. Loss of these skills is often referred to as the “summer slide,” and its effects can place children at an academic disadvantage once school begins again in the fall.

Starting Sunday, June 1, Library patrons of all ages are eligible to participate and can sign up by visiting any Geauga County Public Library branch or enrolling online at geaugalibrary.net/summer-reading. Library patrons will need a Geauga County Public Library card to participate; signing up for a library card is free and available both online and at any Geauga County Public Library branch.

Participants can track their reading and activity progress throughout the summer to earn weekly prizes and raffle entries into the program’s grand prize drawings. Progress can be tracked via Beanstack or by submitting completed entry slips at any Geauga County Public Library branch.

Summer Reading is made possible through the generous support of the Geauga County Library Foundation. For additional information about the Geauga County Library Foundation, patrons can visit geaugalibrary.net/about/foundation.
