Press Release
Geauga County Public Library’s 2025 Summer Reading Program, Color Our World, officially came to a close on July 31, wrapping up two months of enthusiastic reading, community-building, and fun.
Running from June 1 through July 31, this year’s program was offered at all six library branches and welcomed a total of 2,402 registered readers. Participants included 1,430 children, 258 teens, and 714 adults.
Participation looked different across these three age groups. Children earned weekly prizes and grand prize drawing entries by completing five activities listed in the Library’s Summer Reading activity log. The activities in this year’s challenge included: reading for one hour; completing a day with no screen time; going for a hike; helping cook a meal or recipe; and performing an act of kindness. As for the teens and adults, their participation was calculated by tracking the number of books they read throughout the summer.
Youth participants were the most engaged in this year’s challenge. In total, kids spent 19,795 hours reading, which equates to each participant reading roughly 13.8 hours during their summer break. Moreover, 1,062 cumulative days were spent outside and away from screens.
Teen and adult participants were close behind, completing a significant number of books in June and July. Teens logged 3,408 books while adults read an impressive 6,632 titles. In total, readers across the county completed 10,135 books and 33,378 separate activities in just two months’ time.
Leading the charge was the Bainbridge Branch, which registered 560 participants, over 100 more than the next highest branch. Bainbridge also surpassed all other branches in reading activity, logging a total of 2,340 completed books and 7,111 activities. These included 990 youth entries, 738 teen entries, and 1,602 adult entries, unseating last year’s leader, the Middlefield Branch.
In addition to reading achievements, the Library hosted a wide-ranging lineup of programming throughout the summer. A total of 369 programs were offered, drawing more than 7,000 attendees. Youth programs saw the highest turnout with 3,991 participants, followed by 2,807 adults and 275 teens.
Geauga County Public Library extends its heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated in the 2025 Summer Reading Program and contributed to another memorable summer.
