Press Release
September is Library Card Sign-Up Month, a national initiative launched by the American Library Association in 1987 to encourage students to start the school year with the most powerful tool in their backpack, a library card.
A library card isn’t just a piece of plastic, it’s your gateway to a world of free resources, trusted information, and lifelong learning. Whether you’re supporting literacy development at home, helping your child succeed in school, exploring a new hobby, or simply looking for your next great read, it all begins with a library card.
Geauga County Public Library offers multiple types of library cards for patrons to meet their specific needs and cater to their lifestyles. It currently offers these cards to the public free of charge:
Regular Library Card
Available to all Ohio residents, a regular library card provides full access to the Library’s entire collection, including its physical and digital resources. Thanks to Geauga County Public Library’s membership in the CLEVNET consortium, this card can also be used at all CLEVNET member libraries. Patrons must provide proof of residence and submit their application in-person at their local branch to obtain this card.
eCard
Prefer digital-only access? The eCard option is perfect for patrons who want to use the Library’s digital resources. Patrons can obtain this card by submitting an application on geaugalibrary.net.
3-for-Me Card
Designed for Geauga residents under 18 without a parent or guardian present during the application process, the 3-for-Me Card grants physical borrowing privileges to the cardholder, but limits cardholders to borrowing three (3) print items at a time.
Institution Card
This library card is available to organizations in Geauga County that are engaged in educational, cultural, and recreational activities. To learn more about this option, contact your local branch for more information.
Temporary Card
New to the area or missing documentation? The Library’s Temporary Card allows you to start borrowing right away, with a limit of two (2) items. It’s a helpful solution while you get settled.
This year’s theme, “One Card, Endless Possibilities,” is a reminder that Geauga County Public Library is a critical resource to our Geauga community, helping connect patrons to trusted sources of information and endless possibilities. From free internet access to educational support, from language learning to job searching, your library card connects you to what matters.
Getting a card is easy, free, and empowering. For students, it’s a step toward academic achievement. For adults, it opens doors to career growth and personal enrichment. For everyone, it’s a smart way to stay engaged and informed.
Join us this September in celebrating Library Card Sign-Up Month by signing up for a Geauga County Public Library card. Already have one? Share the news with friends and family, and encourage them to start using their local library this September.
