Geauga County Public Library is celebrating the fifth anniversary of the opening of its Thompson Branch on Saturday, November 1, with a day full of family-friendly activities, library service highlights and demonstrations, and a special visit from the Library’s mascot, Rascal the Raccoon. The celebration will showcase all that the Thompson Branch has brought to the Thompson and surrounding communities since its opening in 2020, from its innovative and engaging programming to its welcoming spaces and dedicated staff.

Community members of all ages are invited to join Thompson Branch staff in celebrating this milestone. Activities will include a puzzle exchange, family-friendly crafts and games, a green screen photo station, a raffle, and a meet-and-greet with Rascal the Raccoon. Guests can also browse the Geauga County Library Foundation’s book sale and enjoy light refreshments.
In addition, the Library’s Digitization Specialist will host a Digital Legacy Lab demonstration, offering an up-close look at one of the Library’s newest services and its preservation abilities.
“The Thompson Branch has become a critical hub for the community, and this celebration is a wonderful opportunity to thank our patrons and partners for five years of continued support,” said Mary Balog, Thompson Branch Manager. “We look forward to marking this milestone with a day full of fun, learning, and appreciation.”
Opened in the fall of 2020, the Thompson Branch provides a wide array of services to the community. The branch features three meeting and study rooms, a seed library, a Digital Legacy Lab, a storywalk, and an expansive collection of books, movies, and CDs. It has also been recognized with three American Institute of Architects awards for its innovative, streamlined design that prioritizes both visitor experience and staff efficiency.
